Project R.I.S.E is an academic program that motivates students
to strive higher than they ever thought they could achieve.
It does wonders for a student’s self-esteem when they’re
able to skillfully complete academic work that is at least
two grade levels above their current grade.
There are a lot of programs in the city of Boston that are
just “housing” kids with very little interest
in their personal development or future. Project is not one
of these programs. I have witnessed first hand how this program
has redirected young people’s lives. The expectations
for all the students in the program are high and the level
of individual attention really allows each child to experience
at their own level. I have watched students that were well
below grade level in math and English in just six weeks leave
Project RISE nearly two full years ahead of grade level. This
is done with high expectations and setting a high standard
for all to follow, and in the presence of positive role models
that completed the RISE program and returned as mentors for
others. Simply put, this program is making a difference in
attitudes, behaviors, expectations, and aspirations. It is
purposeful and empowering, and we need more programs like
it.
Anyone can be accepted into college, but not everyone graduates
from college. Project R.I.S.E is a program developed for students
that are going to college with a greater purpose, “To
Graduate”!

Project R.I.S.E. is synonymous with opportunity the program
has given me many opportunities that I would not have had.
I grew up in the inner city without a father, dropped out
of Junior High School, and never envisioned success through
education. I did not have many of the fundamentals of a basic
education and therefore had low self esteem and confidence.
I lived a lifestyle that was detrimental to my life and society.
Project R.I.S.E. gave me the opportunity to overcome all of
these things and any obstacles that I will face in the future.
R.I.S.E. instilled respect for myself and my community enabling
me to know that in every challenge there is opportunity to
grow and succeed.
One my most vivid memories of the program have was when I
struggled terribly with mathematics. A staff member sat down
with me and told me I was a descendant of people that mathematicians
and scientists like George Washington Carver and possessed
the ability to succeed in mathematics. I was empowered from
that day forward not only with an ability to succeed in math
but all studies. R.I.S.E. helped me build character and become
a positive role model for other youth that have similar circumstances.
At 27 years old R.I.S.E. has given me the opportunity to earn
a full basketball scholarship to college, graduate in four
years, with a business degree, and own my home.
The program has also opened doors for me to work as a bank
branch manager and now as an assistant Director for admissions
for my Alma Mata Siena College. I would have never had these
opportunities if it was not for Project R.I.S.E. I owe all
of my success now and in the future to all of the staff members
of this program.

Project RISE is a dynamic program, where students work to
their potential in a safe environment. Professional educators
in all areas encourage and inspire students to grow in all
academic areas. The motivational support from teacher/role
models and outside speakers help students become the people
they can be.
