Project RISE is committed to increasing the enrollment of
competent African American and Latino/Hispanic students into
the private school sector. The overall goal of the progam
is to improve self esteem and academic motivation whic will
enhance aspirations for achievement, educationally, socially
and culturally. For the boys and girls who demonstrate
the ability to benefit from RISE, the goal is to develop students
who are intelligent, well adjusted, and productive leaders
of society.
In concert with Thayer and Derby Academy, Project RISE shares
the philosophy that while engaged in the sheer delight of
interacting with others, children discover a new understanding
and appreciation for one another, void of ethnic difference.
We believe that ethnicity does not hinder an individual's
academic achievement, however, the lack of opportunity to
explore and experiment with new concepts, in addition to the
inability to express oneself in written or verbal form does
impede academic achievement. Because of these beliefs, Project
RISE is committed to providing students with valuable opportunities
to explore and experiment with new concepts and to afford
them opportunities to use these concepts in practical application.
Moreover, Project RISE students will experience a multitude
of educational, cultural, aesthetic and athletic situation
to heighten their self esteem.
