As we expand our services and the total number of students
that will benefit, your financial support becomes critical
for the continued success of each student enrolled. Over the
past five years, RISE has made every effort to keep tuition
costs low for families so they can afford to have their children
participate. With the increased cost of living along with
inflation, there has been more pressure to increase tuitions
to offset these general increase in operating costs for the
program. More than 70% of operating expenses comes from private,
corporate and individual charitable support. As operating
costs increase, the reality for many families that will not
be able to afford increased tuition becomes painfully obvious,
and this could change the target population that is most of
need of the program services we provide.
Since 1993, RISE has empowered children with the courage
and resolve to overcome adversity. More than 105 students
from Project RISE have gone onto post secondary education
with many of them being the first in their families to attend
college. These students become positive role models for their
families and communities which low-income neighborhoods desperately
need. This becomes the first step in changing attitudes, behaviors
and aspirations of each child and eventually will change the
role of the community into that of a nurturer. This is critical
in preventing the self destructive attitudes and behaviors
that suffocate many young people before they even realize
their potential as human beings.
The long term effects have been devastating and cyclical,
and in many cases, has become part of the culture in low-income
communities. We are making every effort to break this cycle
by instilling self pride, respect, perseverance, responsibility,
and determination. More than 80% of the children we provide
services to reside in single-female headed households which
according to statistics, represent the population that is
at the greatest risk of dropping out of high school, becoming
actively involved in gangs, drugs, and violence, and teen
pregnancy. There is nothing more powerful than seeing a young
person reach their potential, and by providing financial support
to our efforts, this will empower young people to help themselves
and uplift entire communities. Your contribution to Project
RISE will make a difference in redirecting these youth and
we encourage you to come spend a day at any of the summer
sites to witness the extraordinary work being done.
